FRIENDS OF MOOSE LAKE: Comprehensive Lake Management Plan - Moose Lake

Purpose

The Friends of Moose Lake is sponsoring a project to complete a Lake Management Plan. Project goals include: 1) Research/compile existing physical, biological, and social data to compare with newly collected data; 2) Collect new water quality data to meet objectives of WISCALM Tier 1 baseline monitoring strategy; 3) Assess aquatic macrophyte community condition; 4) Include stakeholders in management planning, data collection/monitoring, and education events; 4) Survey residents for recreational and lake concerns; 5) Begin long-term water level monitoring; 6) Determine current status of the lake\2019s fish population and angler satisfaction levels; 7) Review local institutional programs; 8) Assess shoreline condition collecting development density information, presence/absence of fish and wildlife critical habitat and in-lake course woody structure; 9) Analyze land-use and identify potential critical sites of nutrient/sediment loads within the lake watershed. Project deliverables include: 1) Summary of lake user survey results; 2) Project related newsletter article(s); 3) Summary of water level data for 2 field seasons; 4) Summary of water quality lab chemistry results; 5) Point-intercept aquatic macrophyte data and frequency in table form; 6) Angler diary information compiled into a visual summary; 7) Map of immediate watershed with potential critical areas identified; 8) Final written comprehensive lake management plan with management recommendation; 9) Listing and map of shore land management ranks per parcel; 10)Written review of the county resource management plan and sharing of project results for incorporation into county plan updates; 11) Final report and close out materials, including budget items. Specific project conditions: semi-annual progress reports submitted to WDNR; WDNR review of draft Lake Management Plan; The WDNR will be provided electronic and hard copies of all data and or reports/plans generated as a result of this project.

Reports and Documents
The intent of this project was to collect baseline information (Tier 1) and develop a comprehensive plan that provides management direction for the lake association so that they may begin to address the various concerns and needs of the lake community while also protecting the lake ecosystem from further degradation. To accomplish this; a social survey of lake users was conducted and investigations of the shoreline habitat, water quality, aquatic plant community, angler habits, the watershed, and soils were completed and appropriate management strategies are offered.
