BUFFALO LAKE PROTECTION & REHAB DISTRICT: Buffalo Lake Mgmt Plan Update

Purpose

Buffalo Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District is sponsoring a large scale planning grant focused on updating and rewriting sections of their lake management plan following a 2 year drawdown of the lake to replace the dam. Project activities include: \2022 Phosphorus loading using WiLMS \2022 Immediate shoreline survey \2022 Course woody debris survey \2022 Water quality assessment \2022 Various aquatic plant surveys \2022 Stakeholder survey Project deliverables include: Comprehensive Lake Management Plan including the following: \2022 Phosphorus loading estimates from watershed (WiLMS) o Scenarios developed to assess how changes in watershed would impact water quality o Internal load estimates \2022 Immediate shoreline survey o Map delineating the shoreline from water\2019s edge to about 35\2019 shoreward o Coarse woody debris map \2022 Water quality assessment o Sample collection 6 times per year following WDNR long term trend monitoring protocol o Chemistry analysis o Dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles o Carlson TSI \2022 Aquatic plant surveys o Early season AIS survey o Point Intercept survey o EWM peak-biomass survey o Aquatic plant community mapping survey \00BF Maps/raw data for all surveys o Comparison with past surveys \2022 Web-based stakeholder survey o Survey results \2022 Work with the lake stakeholders to possibly develop a water level management plan \2022 Management, protection, enhancement alternatives and recommendations o Tangible o Realistic o Including possible funding sources This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional lake coordinator. Final plan needs Department review and approval.
