LAKE METONGA ASSOCIATION, INC.: Metonga AIS Monitoring & Control Strategy Development

Purpose

Lake Metonga Association, Inc. is sponsoring an ACEI grant on Lake Metonga, in Forest County. This phase will control existing and prevent further invasive species infestations. Project goals include: 1) Target chemical treatments in areas of dominant (aerial coverage of ~ 50%) EWM populations in 2016. Collect pre-treatment data in 2015; 2) Hand removal by divers of EWM as an experimental EWM control technique to control low populations; 3) Annual Pre and Post treatment monitoring and analysis; 4) Annual volunteer AIS monitoring; 5) Recruit volunteers and implement a CB/CW program (paid by separate DNR grant); 6) Conduct whole lake point-intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey; 7) Volunteer residual herbicide monitoring; 8) Complete update of APM Plan; 9) Update stakeholder survey. Project deliverables include: 1) Chemical and hand removal control of EWM; 2) Pre and post treatment survey and residual sampling data; 3) PI data, aquatic plant community maps, and vouchers; 4) AIS educational, prevention and monitoring activities; 5) Annual reports and final report summarizing EWM management during project and future EWM management suggestions, CB/CW activities, AIS monitoring and AIS educational activities; 6) Updated APM Plan. Specific Conditions for this project: Annual reports and final report needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of final report and annual reports, pre and post treatment survey data, PI data, vouchers, all maps, GIS data, and samples of educational and outreach products.
