TOWN OF RIVERVIEW: Winslow Lake Rapid Response

Purpose

The Town of Riverview proposes to control Hybrid Watermilfoil in Winslow Lake by implementing control measures during the period 2015-2018. The project elements and deliverables are specified in the Town of Riverview\2019s Aquatic Invasive Species Emergency Response Grant application, dated January 28, 2015. The project includes conducting Point Intercept surveys using the DNR Aquatic Plant Treatment Evaluation Protocol http://www4.uwsp.edu/cnr/uwexlakes/ecology/APM/Appendix-D.pdf ,in addition to 3 peak biomass surveys and lake bathymetry mapping; controlling Hybrid Watermilfoil with aquatic herbicide treatments and hand pulling coordination; and implementing an aquatic invasive species prevention and control strategy that includes soliciting the in-kind volunteer work that is identified in the grant application. Annual progress reports and a final report summarizing the 3-year project will be provided to DNR. Any publications produced as part of the project will incorporate the \201CStop Aquatic Hitchhikers!\201D\2122 brand (partnership details can be found at: http://www.protectyourwaters.org). If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended that the Grantee provide the DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR will be provided both paper and electronic. pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee\2019s final payment request. All information associated with this project is subject to public record. By signing this agreement the Town of Riverview agrees to be responsible for all fiancial and admiinstrative aspects of the grant regardless of sub-agreements entered into with other entities.

EWM was first observed in Winslow Lake in 2012. It was later determined, through genetic testing, to be HWM. The WDNR completed a PI survey in 2014 and confirmed its presence within the lake. In early 2015, the Winslow Shores Property Owners Association partnered with the Town of Riverview to apply for an AIS Early Detection and Response grant. With the help of Onterra, LLC, they were able to secure funding for 2015-2017 to monitor and control HWM within Winslow Lake. The goals of the project include determining the extent of the HWM population in the lake and creating a control strategy.
On July 31st, Aquatic Plant Management LLC (APM) Conducted Diver-Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) services of Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) on Winslow Lake in Oconto County, WI.
