Duck, Apple, and Ashwaubenon Creeks PWS Plan - Nine Key Element Plan

Purpose

The purpose of the Nonpoint Source Control Plan developed for this project is to assess nonpoint pollutants in the Duck, Apple, and Ashwaubenon Creeks Watershed and guide the implementation of control measures. Nonpoint source control measures and education are needed to meet very specific water resource objectives designed to protect and enhance the surface and groundwater in the watershed.

Objective

The main objectives of the project were to reduce overall sediment delivered by 50% and reduce overall phosphorus load by 50%. In addition, this plan calls for significant effort to restore degraded or prior converted wetlands. The project will also develop community action that fosters change promoting sustained long-term improvement and protection of resources in the watershed.

Outcome

The Outagamie County LCD, Brown County LCD and the Oneida Nation Planning Department staff will contact all landowners who are eligible to receive cost sharing during the project's 10-year implementation. They will assist landowners in applying BMPs. Practices range from alterations in farm management, such as changes in manure spreading, crop rotations and conservation tillage, to engineered structures, such as clean water diversions, vegetated buffers, barnyards and manure storage facilities. These practices are tailored to specific landowner situations.
