TOWN OF CONOVER: Buckatabon Lakes Early Detection & Rapid Response Project

Purpose

The Town of Conover is sponsoring an Early Detection & Response project which will focus on surveying, monitoring, mapping, and hand-pulling the new discovery of EWM in Upper and Lower Buckatabon Lakes, Vilas County. Project activities include: 1) Conduct annual early-season and mid-late season AIS surveys; 2) Conduct volunteer AIS surveillance monitoring; 3) Control EWM by volunteer hand-removal and DASH efforts; 4) Conduct watercraft inspections and enter data into SWIMS; 5) Conduct milfoil genetics testing; 6) Develop annual maps and report; 7) Develop end of project report. Project deliverables include: 1) EWM survey data and maps; 2) 200 hours of inspection time and entered data; 3) Annual reports and final report describing the findings of the AIS, hand-pulling efforts, and guidance for continued control actions. Specific conditions for this project: Annual reports and final report need Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of reports, all maps, and all aquatic plant and any GIS data.
