LITTLE MUSKEGO LAKE P & R DISTRICT: Collection and Analysis of Little Muskego Lake Data

Purpose

The Little Muskego P & R District is sponsoring a project to 1) study the impact of a winter drawdown (to combat starry stonewort) and 2) collect information needed to plan for a future whole lake spring treatment to combat Eurasian water milfoil and curly leaf pondweed. The whole lake treatment plan will be developed separately from this grant. Project deliverables: all data collected and detailed report containing the results of the specific project activities. Specific project activities: 1) Use GPS/GIS and transect the lake to determine bottom contours; 2) develop a bathymetric map of the lake; 3) determine lake acreage that will be exposed (dry) in the winter for various intervals of drawdown (12 in., 24 in., 36 in., 42 in. and 84 in. if pumping occurs); 4) determine volume of water in the lake for each foot of depth contour; 5) determine how long it will take (number of days) to draw down the lake 42 inches and 84 inches if pumping occurs; 6) determine how long (approximate number of days) it will take to refill the lake in the spring after replacing the boards in the dam; 7) determine safe discharge rate during drawdown to prevent downstream flooding and erosion; 8) compile temperature profiles collected by both DNR staff in past years and temperature profiles collected by LMPRD in the spring of 2017. Special Conditions: 1) All data shall be entered into the SWIMS database. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Biologist. The Grantee should provide the DNR Lake Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request.
