Lakes Grant
Large Scale Lake Planning
LPL-1133-07
2006
Complete
This plan is an Aquatic Plant Management Plan (APMP). An APMP is required to be prepared and formally approved by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in order to qualify for a wide array of grants to study, plan and manage the lakes. The first APMP was produced in 2009 and this 2015-16 plan is the result of the evaluation and revamping of the 2009 plan. This plan was produced with extensive public input and will help guide the Minocqua-Kawaguesaga Lake Protection Association (MKLPA) and the Wisconsin DNR in managing the aquatic plant community in Minocqua Lake, Kawaguesaga Lake, Minocqua Thoroughfare, and a portion of the Tomahawk Thoroughfare over the next five years (2016-2020) at which point it will be evaluated in 2021.
Grant Awarded
Minocqua/Kawaguesaga Lakes Protection Association is sponsoring a large scale lake planning grant to study Kawaguesaga Lake in Oneida County with a study completion date of June 30, 2008. Town of Minocqua is a project sponsor. The project will focus on developing an APM Plan for Kawaguesaga Lake. Completion of an Aquatic Plant Management (APM) Plan will allow for potential Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) cost sharing grants and permits for Eurasian water-milfoil (EWM) and curly-leaf pondweed control.
Project activities include:
1) Education and communication - initial meeting, progress meetings, results meeting, news releases, newsletter articles, and informational pamphlets
2) Point-intercept (PI) survey of aquatic plants with 2 sets of pressed plants
3) Aquatic plant community mapping and analysis
4) Curly-leaf pondweed survey
5) Formation of Aquatic Plant Committee
6) Develop APM Plan.
