Horsehead Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District is sponsoring phased large scale lake planning grants to study Horsehead Lake in Oneida County with a study completion date of December 31, 2008. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Horsehead Lake.

Horsehead Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District is sponsoring phased large scale lake planning grants to study Horsehead Lake in Oneida County with a study completion date of December 31, 2008. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Horsehead Lake.
Project activities include:
1) Stakeholder participation - kick-off meeting, survey, planning meetings (up to 3), wrap-up meeting, news release, newsletter article, and progress report
2) Water quality sampling (Secchi, P, Chla, DO, temp, N, conductivity, pH, Alk, suspended solids, and Calcium) - note some sampling done by Citizen Lake Monitor and some by consultant
3) Point-intercept (PI) survey of aquatic plants with 2 sets of pressed plants
4) Aquatic plant community mapping and analysis
5) Curly-leaf pondweed survey and mapping
6) Fisheries assessment
7) Watershed assessment
8) Develop LMP
Project deliverables include:
1) Stakeholder survey, news release, newsletter article, and progress report
2) PI data and aquatic plant community and watershed maps
3) 2 sets of pressed aquatic plants (one set for lake group and second for Dept)
4) LMP
Specific conditions for this project:
- Draft of stakeholder survey should be submitted to Lakes Management Coordinator for review before sending to public
- LMP needs Dept review and approval
WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of LMP, news release, newsletter article, progress report, stakeholder survey, data from PI survey, data from watershed assessment, set of pressed aquatic plants, and all maps from project.
