The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for both lakes. Project activities include: 1) Citizen participation \2013 lake user survey, charrette and planning meetings (6); 2) Water quality sampling and analysis and watershed assessment; 3) Early-season and mid/late season AIS surveys; 4) Shoreland and Coarse Woody Habitat assessment; 5) Collect and synthesize existing lake data; 6) Aquatic plant surveys (PI survey, community mapping and substrate mapping); 7) Data analysis; 8) Develop LMP. Project deliverables include: 1) Lake user survey and charrette information; 2) Water chemistry data; 3) Watershed maps and modeling data; 4) PI, shoreland and woody habitat data; 5) Aquatic plant community and AIS maps; 6) Aquatic plant vouchers; 7) LMP. Specific conditions for this project: 1) Draft of stakeholder survey and charrette needs Dept review and approval; 2) Draft of LMP needs Dept review and approval. The ultimate goal for this project is to understand the current ecological condition of Buckatabon Lakes and develop actions that support its aesthetic qualities and ecosystem health over time. Supporting goals include identifying ecological threats and formulating responses to them; maintaining high quality aesthetic and recreational opportunities; engaging and educating the lake community; and developing actions that conserve native species and their habitats. Likewise, this plan seeks to meet NR 198.43 requirements, allowing the Buckatabon Lakes Association (BLA) to be eligible for further Wisconsin DNR Surface Water Grants.
