Purpose
Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department, on behalf of the Manitowoc and Sheboygan Master Gardeners, proposes to control purple loosestrife using biocontrol in Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties during the period 2007 - 2008. The project elements and deliverables are specified in the Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department Aquatic Invasive Species Grant application, dated January 29, 2007. The project includes establishing between two and four mass beetle rearing sites; releasing beetles in at least twelve prioritized locations; conducting education and training workshops for volunteers; conducting awareness programs through nature centers and Kohler-Andrae State Park; equipping partners to locate and report purple loosestrife stands with GPS technology; making teaching resources available through the project's Invasive Species Teams; designing promotional publicity about the program and generating news stories to local and statewide media; developing a pilot program for native species restoration, including selecting, planting and monitoring native species; and providing Coordinator support for the project. Annual progress reports and a final report summarizing the two-year project will be provided to DNR. If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended the Grantee provide the DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee's final payment request.Related Reports
