Mecan River TWA 2019

Purpose

The purpose of the Mecan River TWA is to collect water quality data in a Healthy but Vulnerable Watershed to provide a better understanding of the current health of the system. [TWA HUC12-040302010703]

Objective

This project will provide the water quality data to establish the current health of the Mecan River in order to serve as a reference for protection. Fish IBI surveys will be conducted at 13 locations, 12 on the Mecan mainstem and 1 on Little Pine Creek. In 2017, macroinvertebrate samples were collected at these Mecan River locations. This project will fill out that assessment with fish IBI surveys. Thermistors will be placed at each of the 13 fish IBI locations. Two WBIC will be monitored as part of this project: Mecan River 155000 Little Pine Creek 157400

Outcome

Water quality monitoring will be conducted at 13 locations and a final report will be written by 12/31/2019. All water quality monitoring will be conducted by Water Resources staff. All fish data will be entered into the FMDB by Water Resources staff by 12/31/2019.

Study Design

All water quality monitoring will be conducted by Water Resources staff. All fish data will be entered into the FMDB by Water Resources staff by 12/31/2019. Fish surveys will be conducted at 13 locations. Seven fieldwork days will be needed to complete these surveys from July 1st through September 15th, FY20. Thermistors will be deployed at 13 locations.
