LAKE RIPLEY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT: Lake Ripley Watershed Assessment & Mgmt. Planning

Purpose

The Lake Ripley Management District will use this grant to conduct a post-implementation watershed assessment for re-inventory and re-modeling of the watershed. This process will include field surveys, gathering and analysis of existing data, GIS mapping. The updated information collected will be used to update key management plans. Please note: Final report deliverables help us ensure that the grant has been satisfactorily completed, and that state dollars are being spent wisely. Every deliverable, no matter how minor, must be completed in order to receive full reimbursement for the state share of costs. Ranking questions used to obtain this award, and specific deliverables mentioned in your grant description, constitute final report deliverables. If any deliverable is not adequately provided in the final report, only partial reimbursement, at the department's discretion, will be made. The only exception will be if there is a well-justified and department approved scope amendment. If you have any question about what a specific ranking question or other deliverable means, please contact your lake coordinator BEFORE you sign this agreement.

Reports and Documents
Lake Ripley‘s accessibility and popularity have long contributed to watershed-development and lake-use pressures that affect its overall condition. Ongoing concerns include overdevelopment, soil erosion, polluted stormwater runoff, nuisance algal blooms, problem weed growth, the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species, loss of habitat and natural scenic beauty, and seasonal overcrowding that leads to a less than desirable recreational climate. This plan is intended to address these and other concerns, namely by promoting well-informed decisions that can best protect and enhance this valuable community resource. It is a challenge made more difficult in light of two realities. One is the sheer scale, complexity and evolving nature of the main problems that threaten Lake Ripley‘s long-term health. The second is the changing and sometimes conflicting value judgments, perceptions and expectations found among the lake‘s property owners and visitors.
