GORDON/ST. CROIX FLOWAGE ASSOCIATION: Gordon/St. Croix Flowage AIS Prevention & Education Project

Purpose

The Gordon St. Croix Flowage Association is sponsoring an AIS prevention project including monitoring of launches by boat inspections, an aquatic plant survey, & construction of a kiosk to inform the public of AIS. A consultant will be hired for administration; a part-time supervisor will be hired to train, schedule, & oversee paid & volunteer workers; an aquatic plant survey will be completed with the assistance of UW-Stevens Point. Activities include: 1. Public landing boat inspections & boater education from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend and fishing opener weekend. 2. Aquatic plant survey using the Point Intercept Survey method; aquatic macrophyte samples to be sent to a herbarium for identification 3. Construction of an information kiosk at the landing to increase boater awareness of AIS. Project deliverables include a comprehensive report including: 1) Documentation of donated time & services related to grant administration. 2) AIS related brochures & educational materials 3) Verification of inspector & monitor training including agendas & attendance lists. 4) Watercraft inspection reports including time & number of people reached & CB/CW survey results. 5) Aquatic plant survey report including supporting graphs & maps. 6) Photos of the educational kiosk. Special conditions: The project sponsor shall immediately contact the DNR in the event of a new AIS infestation. This scope summarizes the grant application and does not supersede application specifics. Data, records, and reports, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the Lake Coordinator. If a consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended the Grantee provide the Lake Coordinator a draft for comment. DNR will receive both paper and electronic copies of the final report.
