VILLAGE OF SOLON SPRINGS: AIS Control for Evasion of Watermilfoil

Purpose

The Village of Solon Springs is sponsoring an AIS project on Upper St. Croix Lake which includes monitoring of boat launches by boat inspectors; educating boaters about AIS & prevention; public education through the use of trained volunteers going door to door informing lakeshore property owners about AIS; placing articles in newsletters & local newspapers; presenting AIS information at local meeting of civic & government groups. The public boat landing inspection program will run from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. A part-time supervisor will be hired to train, schedule, & oversee paid & volunteer workers. Deliverables include a comprehensive report including: 1) Documentation of donated time & services related to grant administration. 2) Watercraft inspection report including time & number of people reached; CB/lCW survey results; survey results will be entered into a CB/CW database. 3) Copies of newsletters, educational materials, & brochures used at the boat landings or distributed to the public. 6) Agenda & minutes of civic or government meetings where AIS presentations are made. 7) AIS related materials generated or paid for by this grant. Special conditions: The project sponsor shall immediately contact the DNR in the event of a new AIS infestation. This scope summarizes the scope provided in the grant application & does not supersede application specifics. Data, records, & reports, including GIS-based maps & digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the Lake Coordinator. If consultant is to provide final report, it is recommended that Grantee provide DNR Lake Coordinator with a draft for comment. DNR to receive both paper & electronic copies of the final report.
