Silver and Dakin Creek TWA 319 Project- 2020

Purpose

This project would assess the water quality condition of the Silver and Dakin Creek Watersheds after implementation of BMPs since 2014. The Green Lake Lake Management Plan has been submitted to DNR for 9KE approval and it is assumed to be approved by the time monitoring begins.

Objective

This assessment would provide data for determining the water quality of the Silver Creek (WBIC 146700) and Dakin Creek (WBIC 146800) Watersheds. This project would collect total phosphorus samples and biological data to determine if water quality improvements have occurred since watershed BMPs have been installed to reduce nonpoint. An LTE and biologist would collect total phosphorus and TSS samples 6 times between May and October 2020 at 11 locations: Stations 10037918, 10040834, 203080, 10021299, 10015911, 10016330, 10041510, 10041509, 10041508, 10041507, & 10041506. In addition, we would collect diatom samples once at each of the TP monitoring sites. Diatom samples will be sent to Gina L. in Madison for analysis. We would collect macroinvertebrate data at 9 locations: Stations 10016330, 10015911, 10040834, 10041506, 10041507, 10041508, 10041509, 10041510, & 10037918. Fish and qualitative habitat surveys would be conducted at 8 locations: Stations 10016330, 10015911, 10041506, 10041507, 10041508, 10041509, 10041510, & 10037918. Additionally, we would collect continuous temperature data at 10 locations in the Silver and Dakin Creek Watersheds from May through October 2020: Stations 10016330, 10021299, 10015911, 10041506, 10041507, 10041508, 10041509, 10041510, 10037918, & 203080. The bug collection will occur in fall 2020. All bug collection data will be uploaded into SWIMS by UWSP by Fall 2021. All fish and qualitative habitat data will be entered into the FMDB by 12/31/2020. All phosphorus monitoring data will be uploaded into SWIMS by the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene by 12/31/2020. All continuous temperature monitoring data will be uploaded into SWIMS by 12/31/2020. Final report will be written by 12/31/2021.

Outcome

This project will compare water quality of the streams in the Silver and Dakin Creek Watersheds in 2014 to 2020 conditions. The water quality data will be shared with other interested agencies and groups, such as USGS, Green Lake County LWCD, Green Lake Association, NRCS, and Green Lake Sanitary District.
