Otter Creek Bacteria Monitoring (Otter Creek, 56400) SER_01_09

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to determine if the water quality of Otter Creek has improved after the implementation of best management practices (BMPs). BMPs included vegetated buffers, fencing out cattle, and repairing a failed residential septic system. Water quality parameters to be monitored will include membrane filtered fecal coliform bacteria (MFFCC), e-coli bacteria, instantaneous water quality parameters using a Hydrolab Unit, and stream flow.

Objective

The project will answer if BMP implementation improved the water quality of Otter Creek and will also meet the requirement for EPA Performance Measure SP 12 (Measure W). If improvements are documented, Otter Creek could be removed from the 303(d) list.

Outcome

Performance Measures: 1) Number of sample sites associated with the project. One sample site will be located downstream of the BMPs. 2) Number of sampling events associated with project. 17 water samples will collected for analyses. 3) Estimated date when sample collection will be complete. October 30, 2008 4) Estimated date when all data will be entered into appropriate database. November 30, 2008 5) Estimated date when final report will be complete. June 30, 2009
