MATTHEWS LAKE ASSOC INC: Matthews Lake AIS Plan, Survey, & Shoreland Buffers

Purpose

Matthews Lake Association is sponsoring a two-phase project including an AIS prevention plan, PI survey, and shoreland buffers with the following goals: This is the first phase of a two-phase project. This project includes on-site evaluations & planning work for shoreland buffer/native plantings at 6 properties on Matthews Lake to help protect water quality. This first phase also includes a point-intercept aquatic plant survey, public input meeting, planning meeting, watershed model, research of methods for measuring phosphorus loading from septic systems, CLMN monitoring for zebra mussels, and completion of an aquatic invasive species prevention plan. The second phase will include an application for a Healthy Lakes grant to implement the plans developed for native plantings at the 6 properties on Matthews Lake. Project deliverables include: The results of the monitoring, planning, control, and education/outreach as described in the application, including all GIS-related data and files, examples of outreach materials developed, and a project summary/report. Specific project conditions: WDNR\2019s monitoring protocols should be used and all data should be entered into SWIMS. The specific objectives, metrics, and deliverables for the listed activities are included in the application and supporting materials, and this scope is not intended to replace or supersede those documents. If consultant is to provide final report, it is recommended that Grantee provide DNR Lake Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to submission of grantee's final payment request.

Prompted by concerns about phosphorus levels and nearby AIS infestations, the Matthews Lake Association (MLA) partnered with Aquatic Plant & Habitat Services LLC to apply for an Aquatic Invasive Species Education & Prevention Grant through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR).
