RIVER ALLIANCE OF WISCONSIN: AIS Threats to Wisconsin Rivers

Purpose

River Alliance of Wisconsin, using the network of local river protection and river watershed protection organizations, will sponsor a project to: 1) assess the potential threats posed by the following species (Rusty Crayfish, Zebra Mussel, Japanese Knotweed, Big head and Silver Asian Carp); 2) examine, assess, and guide citizens & volunteer groups at the local level to take on education, prevention, planning and management activities aimed at these species. Deliverables include: 1) produce an assessment that will map and report data about the presence or absence of the target species in Wisconsin rivers and streams; 2) meet, study, and learn experiences of Wisconsin rivers and lakes organizations; 3) hold an educational/outreach event to help address concerns statewide; 4) preliminary establishment of a statewide network of watershed and river friends groups devoted to controlling species noted previously.
