SPREAD EAGLE CHAIN O'LAKES ASSOCIATION: Middle Lake Eurasian Watermilfoil Response

Purpose

The Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes Association (SECOLA) is sponsoring an Early Detection & Response grant with a project to focus on surveying, mapping, and hand-pulling Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) in Middle Lake, Florence County. Project activities include: 1) Conduct annual early-season and mid-late season AIS surveys; 2) Control EWM by volunteer and professional hand-removal and DASH (if needed); 3) Conduct a whole-lake aquatic plant point-intercept (PI) survey; 4) Complete an aquatic plant management plan for Middle Lake; 5) Develop annual and end of project reports. Project deliverables include: 1) EWM survey data and maps; 2) PI survey data in Excel spreadsheet format; 3) Aquatic Plant Management Plan; 4) Annual reports and final report describing the findings of the EWM surveys, hand-pulling efforts, and guidance for continued control actions. Specific conditions for this project: Annual reports and final report need Department review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of reports, all maps, and all aquatic plant and any GIS data.
