OKAUCHEE LAKE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT: Okauchee Lake/WDNR Chemical Treatment Starry Stonewort

Purpose

The Okauchee Lake Management District will undertake control and containment measures for a population of Starry Stonewort, recently documented in Okauchee Lake. The project includes participation in a study with the ACOE and Wisconsin DNR. The District will hire contractors to install a temporary floating curtain barrier and chemically treat a population of starry stonewort located at and adjacent to the Golden Mast boat launch and marina. The District will contract with the State Lab of Hygiene to analyze residual chemical samples taken by the Wisconsin DNR during the study. The District will hire scuba divers to hand pull small scattered populations of starry stonewort later in the summer. The District will train its harvesting crew in the identification of starry stonewort. The project deliverable is a short report containing the treatment record, photos of the barrier in place, GPS locations of hand pulling areas, summary of harvesting log regarding starry stonewort activities and a table containing the results of the residual chemical monitoring.
