TOWN OF BARNES: Aquatic Species Established Population Control

Purpose

The Town of Barnes (Bayfield County) is continuing an aquatic plant management project to control the population of Eurasian Watermilfoil in Tomahawk Lake and Sand Bar Lakes, and the population of Curly-Leaf Pondweed in Upper and Middle Eau Claire Lakes. The project also increases education regarding Aquatic Invasive Species with additional signage and brochures with maps indicating areas of infestation on each lake, to be distributed at business outlets, boat landings and via direct mail. Specific project activities include: 1) Contain existing AIS populations within the waterbodies that currently have known populations. 2) Prevent the spread of AIS to other waterbodies. 3) Enhance educational efforts to Barnes community and visitors. 4) Update the APM plan. Project final deliverables include: 1) Maps and spreadsheets documenting BAISS activity by grid. 2) Aquatic plant point-intercept survey reports and aquatic plant files. 3) Updated DNR approved aquatic plant management plan. 4) Volunteer monitoring summary will be provided along with new discoveries and entered into SWIMS. 4) CBCW watercraft inspection data entered into SWIMS. 5) Samples of education outreach along with a summary of contacts as a result of efforts. 6) Summary of outreach effort, including number of organizations and people contacted and volunteer recruitment or donations as a result. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by regional staff.
