POLK COUNTY LWRD: Big Butternut Lake Water Quality & Biological Monitoring Study, (Phase 1)

Purpose

Polk County Land and Water Resources Department is sponsoring a two-phase project to assess water quality and biological conditions and trends; engage and survey landowners and stakeholders; survey and develop a management plan for aquatic plants; and monitor stormwater. Deliverables include: a report that details results of project components and results, including nutrient budget and modeling, and aquatic plant and stormwater management plans. The specific Phase 1 (LPL-1297-09) project tasks include: 1) Expanded water quality monitoring, including algae and zooplankton monitoring; 2) Lake level and precipitation monitoring; 3) In/outflow monitoring; 4) Groundwater monitoring and flow estimates; 5) Sociological survey; 6) Education and outreach, including a pontoon classroom, aquatic plant workshop, and NEMO presentation. Special Conditions: 1) CLMN efforts should not be duplicated, and these data should be included in the trends analysis and final reporting; 2) WDNR's Aquatic Plant Management in Wisconsin guidance should be followed for point-intercept survey monitoring and aquatic plant management plan development; 3) Draft public surveys and shoreline inventory methods must be reviewed and approved by the Department before being initiated. This scope is intended to summarize the detailed project scope provided in the application and does not supersede those application tasks/deliverables. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Lake Coordinator.
