The Lake Association of Long Lake is sponsoring phased large scale lake planning grants to study Long Lake in Florence County with a study completion date of December 31, 2010. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Long Lake. Phases 1 and 2 were funded in this grant cycle (Feb 2009) and Phase 3 will be submitted for funding in Feb 2010.
Project activities include: 1) Education and Outreach - kick-off weekend meeting, lake fair, kiosk construction, and user survey; 2) Recruit volunteers and implement a CB/CW program and AIS monitoring; 3) Water quality sampling and analysis (secchi, P, Chla, DO, temp, pH, N, and calcium) and sediment sample for P analysis; 4) Point-intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey, analysis and community mapping; 5) Purple loosestrife (PL) assessment, mapping and control; 6) Wildlife Assessment (birds, amphibians and reptiles); 7) Vascular plant assessment and fisheries assessment; 8) Watershed assessment and P load modeling; 9) Develop shoreland protection and restoration (P&R) plan; 10) Develop LMP.
Project deliverables include: 1) User survey, kiosk and shoreland P&R plan; 2) Aquatic plant community and watershed maps; 3) Completed entry of inspection Forms 3200-120 and monitoring Forms 3200-124 onto Dept website; 4) PI, water quality and P modeling data; 5) Two sets of aquatic plant vouchers; 6) LMP.
