LITTLE ST GERMAIN LAKE P & R DISTRICT: Little St. Germain AIS Control Project

Purpose

Little St Germain Lake P&R District is sponsoring a four year project on Little St Germain Lake and Muskellunge Creek focusing on CLP and EWM management, AIS education, prevention and monitoring. The goal is to reduce the densities of CLP and EWM below dominant and the treatable CLP to <20 acres and treatable EWM to <15 acres and have a EWM frequency of <1.8% of the littoral PI points of whole lake PI survey. This project was partially funded through grant ACEI-065-09 and this grant is a continuation of the same project. Project activities include: 1) Annual chemical treatments of CLP and EWM; 2) Annual pre/post treatment monitoring and analysis; 3) Annual volunteer AIS monitoring and hand removal; 4) Purchase GPS unit and marker buoys for volunteer monitoring; 5) CB/CW program through a paid inspector; 6) Entry of inspection and monitoring forms onto Dept website; 7) Install innovative signage at boat landing; 8)Point-intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey and community mapping; 9) Annual and final reports. Project deliverables include: 1) Chemical control of CLP and EWM; 2) Pre/post treatment, PI survey and community mapping data; 3) Hand removal and annual mapping of CLP and EWM; 4) Completed entry of inspection and monitoring forms onto Dept website; 5) GPS unit and marker buoys and 200 hours of annual inspection time; 6) Annual and final reports summarizing project AIS management and future AIS management suggestions, CB/CW activities, AIS monitoring and AIS educational activities. Specific Conditions: Annual reports and final report needs Dept review and approval WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of final report, all annual reports, all maps, all GIS, and survey data (includes: pre/post treatment and PI).
