BIG PORTAGE LAKE RIPARIAN OWNERS ASSOCIATION: Big Portage Lake Management Plan, Phase II

Purpose

Big Portage Lake Riparian Owners Association is sponsoring a phased large scale lake planning grants to study Big Portage Lake in Vilas County. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Big Portage Lake. This grant is for phase 2. (Phase 3 of the LMP will be applied for in February of 2010.) Project activities include: 1) Stakeholder participation \2013 kick-off meeting, stakeholder survey, planning meetings (up to 2), wrap-up meeting, news release(s), and newsletter article; 2) Water quality sampling and analysis (Secchi, P, Chla, DO, temp, N, conductivity, pH, Alk, suspended solids, and Calcium) \2013 sampling by citizen monitor and consultant; 3) Point-intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey, community mapping and analysis; 4) Curly-leaf pondweed survey; 5) Shoreline assessment; 6) Fisheries assessment; 7) Watershed assessment and P load modeling; 8) CB/CW, volunteer AIS monitoring and professional Dreissena monitoring; 9) Develop LMP. Project deliverables include: 1) PI and shoreland assessment data; 2) Aquatic plant community and watershed maps; 3) Two sets of aquatic plant vouchers. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of LMP, news release(s), newsletter article, stakeholder survey, data from watershed assessment, PI survey, shoreland assessment, and water quality sampling, all maps from project, and all GIS data, and vouchers.
