East Twin River initial assessment NER_05_CMP12 -

Purpose

This project is to do an initial assessment on the upper reaches of the East Twin River (WBIC 84000) to determine if there are any impairments and if additional data are needed to determine if the river should be added to the 303(d) list. The timing of this project is excellent because the fisheries folks are planning to assess the fish community in the upper reaches of the East Twin River this summer so the monitoring can be used in conjunction with the fish data to determine the current overall stream health.

Outcome

These are milestones that will be reported on in the Division Quarterly Report. Please estimate dates in a manner that encourages success. 1) The East Twin River will be monitored at 4 locations. 2) Habitat assessments will be conducted at each of the 4 locations one time in the summer of 2011. Macroinvertebrates will be collected at 4 locations in the fall of 2011. Continuous temperature monitors (HOBO's) will be installed at 4 sites for the entire 2011 summer. A dissolved oxygen/temperature/pH/specific conductivity meter will be installed at two locations for one to two weeks in mid-summer. Water samples will be collected for chloride, total phosphorus, and ammonia four times total at all four sites. 3) All data will be entered into the appropriate databases by March 2012. 4) Final report will be complete by June 30, 2012.
