BLACK OAK LAKE PRES FDN: Black Oak Lake Protection & Restoration of Riparian Shorelines, Phase 4

Purpose

Black Oak Lake Riparian Owners Association is sponsoring phased project to study Black Oak Lake, in Vilas County. The project will focus on aquatic invasive species prevention (AIS) activities, studying shorelands and water quality in Black Oak Lake and then update the Black Oak Lake Adaptive Management Plan (LMP). This would allow Black Oak Lake to become eligible for lake protection grant money in the shoreland restoration category. Phase 4 project activities include: 1) Review and analyze littoral zone and riparian area conditions to prioritize shoreline restoration and protection areas; 2) Select candidate protection and restoration sites; 3) Develop protection/restoration plan for each demonstration area; 4) Hire CB/CW monitor and continue CB/CW program; 5) Update LMP with protection/restoration plans. Project deliverables include: 1) Littoral zone and riparian area data and results; 2) Shoreland restoration and protection plan that includes 4-7 individual demonstration site plans; 3) Entered watercraft inspection data onto SWIMS; 4) Updated LMP. Specific project conditions: 1) Draft restoration/protection plans need Dept review and approval; 2) LMP needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of LMP, restoration/protection plans, all results from data analysis, and all GIS data.
