BLACK OAK LAKE PRES FDN: Black Oak Lake Long Term Water Quality & Stage Monitoring, Phase 5

Purpose

Black Oak Lake Riparian Owners Association is sponsoring phased lake planning project to study Black Oak Lake, in Vilas County. The project will focus on aquatic invasive species prevention (AIS) activities, studying shorelands and water quality in Black Oak Lake and then update the Black Oak Lake Adaptive Management Plan (LMP). This would allow Black Oak Lake to become eligible for lake protection grant money in the shoreland restoration category. Phase 5 project activities include: 1) Conduct water quality sampling (CLMN \2013 secchi, P and chla, grant \2013 N, ammonia, Ca, alk, ss, pH, and cond); 2) Install lake stage monitoring station and begin measurements; 3) Develop water quality and lake stage monitoring plan; 4) Hire CB/CW monitor and continue CB/CW program; 5) Conduct educational and outreach: water quality and stage monitoring training, press release and newsletter; 6) Update LMP. Project deliverables include: 1) Water quality and lake stage data; 2) Water quality and lake stage monitoring plan; 3) Entered watercraft inspection data onto SWIMS; 4) Updated LMP. Specific conditions for this project: 1) Draft water quality and lake stage monitoring plan needs Dept review and approval; 2) LMP needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of LMP, water quality and lake stage monitoring plans, all data and results, and all GIS data.
