INLAND LAKES PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DIS: Town of Townsend EWM Control Project

Purpose

The Inland Lakes P&R District No.1 proposes to control Eurasian water-milfoil (EWM) through chemical treatment and preventative measures in the district\2019s boundaries of Reservoir Pond, Explosion Lake, Horn Lake, Little Horn Lake, McCaslin Brook, and the Townsend Flowage during the period of 2011-2014. The project elements and deliverables are specified in the Inland Lakes P&R District\2019s No.1 Aquatic Invasive Species Grant application, dated July 27, 2010. The project includes conducting annual pre and post-treatment surveys, in accordance with the Department of Natural Resources established protocol, to monitor the extent of EWM and efficacy of the previous year\2019s treatment; treating EWM infested areas with aquatic herbicides; and conducting education and prevention activities to prevent further AIS infestations, including placing articles in a local newspaper, conducting watercraft inspections and Citizen Lake Monitoring. Anyone performing Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW) boat inspections and Citizen lake Monitoring (CLMN) adopt a shoreline program must enroll in a current CBCW or CLMN training workshop. Watercraft inspection records and Citizen Lake Monitoring records will be entered into the State\2019s online SWIMS Database. Annual progress reports and a final report summarizing the 4-year project will be provided to DNR. If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended the Grantee provide the DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee\2019s final payment request.
