Neenah Slough at Neenah Foundry/Byrd Avenue Outfall.

Purpose

Conduct sampling at Neenah Slough at Neenah Foundry/Byrd Avenue Outfall. Conduct sampling for four acute sediment toxicity tests. Sediment samples show extreme exceedances of sediment quality guidelines for foundry metals. Neenah Foundry Corp has been named as an RP, and has begun investigations into the areal scope of the contamination (chemistry only). Results of department-issued toxicity tests provides scientific data to determine the need for a detailed feasibility study geared towards remediation. TIMELINE: Mid-July would be the best time to collect sediment for toxicity testing. Water levels in the slough are typically lower at this time of year, easing site access. TYPE OF TESTS: Sediment toxicity tests: acute (10-day tests) should be enough to start. The usual Hyallela and Choronomid. We are looking for 4 sites to be tested.
