SQUASH LAKE ASSOC: Squash Lake 2013 - 2014 EWM Early Detection Response Project

Purpose

Squash Lake Association is sponsoring a third Early Detection Response project on Squash Lake, Oneida County. The project will focus on AIS education, prevention, and monitoring and hand-harvesting of EWM in Squash Lake. Project activities include: 1) Hire scuba divers; 2) Conduct early-season AIS and EWM peak-biomass surveys; 3) Conduct volunteer AIS monitoring; 4) Develop annual EWM maps; 5) Control EWM by hand removal efforts via scuba divers and volunteer snorkelers; 6) Prepare annual summary and final report. Project deliverables include: 1) Scuba divers; 2) Annual summaries and final report describing the findings of AIS monitoring, results of EWM hand-harvesting, EWM GPS locations, updated EWM maps, guidance for continued management actions, and prevention and education activities. Specific conditions for this project: Annual summaries and final report needs Department review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of final report, GPS data and maps.
