Lakes Grant
Large Scale Lake Planning
LPL-1531-14
2013
Complete
This document provides revisions to Goal 6: Maintain Diverse Native Plant Communities (pg 60) relating to aquatic invasive species management and Appendix E Aquatic Plant Assessment and Management Plan relating to management of existing invasive species. Furthermore, this document sets an adaptive framework for making aquatic invasive management decisions, and updates existing Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) conditions for Big Lake.
This document describes a plan for the long-term management of the Wisconsin waters within the Cisco Chain of Lakes (Cisco Chain). Successful management of the Cisco Chain is dependent on an understanding of the relationship between the desired use of the lakes and the physical, chemical, biological and social processes that shape the lake ecosystem. To this end, the plan is comprised of an assessment of 1) the use and value of the Cisco Chain, 2) its current condition and the potential problems affecting it; and 3) the existing policies in place to protect it into the future.
Grant Awarded
Cisco Chain Riparian Owners Association is sponsoring a large scale lake planning grant to study Mamie Lake, in Vilas County. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Mamie Lake.
Project activities include: 1) Stakeholder participation \2013 stakeholder survey, planning meetings (2-4), kick-off meeting, wrap-up meeting, news release(s), and newsletter article; 2) Summarize ongoing lake management work; 3) Water quality sampling and analysis; 4) Watershed assessment and nutrient load modeling; 5) Characterize biological communities and ecosystem interactions; 6) Shoreline assessment; 7) Aquatic plant surveys (PI survey, community mapping, and substrate mapping); 8) Data analysis; 9) Volunteer watercraft inspections; 10) Develop LMP.
Project deliverables include: 1) Stakeholder survey, news release(s), and newsletter article; 2) Water chemistry data; 3) Watershed maps and modeling data; 4) PI and shoreland data; 5) Aquatic plant community and substrate maps; 6) Aquatic plant vouchers; 7) Entered inspection data into SWIMS; 8) LMP.
