Description of Incident/General Comments |
SAGER CALLED RICHARD FRIZELIS, CENTRAL MARINE LOGISTICS, AT 1238 HRS ON 3/8/10. OSI HIRED TO CLEAN UP SPILL. SPILL IS ON DECK OF SHIP AND APPROXIMATELY 20 GALLONS SPILLED TO THE ICE. SAGER SPOKE WITH PETTY OFFICEER WILLIAM VAUGHN AT APPROXIMATELY 0845HRS ON 3/10/10. SPILL CAUSED BY A WATER SIGHT GLASS AT THE BASE OF A HYDRAULIC OIL TANK FROZE AND BROKE. APPROXIMATELY 10-20 GALLONS OF HYDRAULIC OIL SPILLED TO THE WATER. OSI WAS ON SITE ON 3/8 AND 3/9. HARD AND SOFT BOOM IS IN PLACE ACROSS ENTRANCE OF THE SLIP. SOFT BOOM IS IN PLACE ALONG THE HULL OF THE SHIP. OSI RECOVERED AS MUCH OIL AS POSSIBLE FROM THE ICE AND ALONG THE SIDE OF THE SHIP. THE BOOMS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE UNTIL ICE MELT.SAGER CALLED FRASER SHIPYARD AND SPOKE WITH MIKE PETERSON. PETERSON SAID OSI IS RETURNING TODAY AND WILL RETURN PERIODICALLY TO RECOVER REMAINING OIL. VAUGHN TOLD SAGER ON 6/1/10 THAT THE BOOMS WERE OUT OF THE WATER AND THERE IS NO MORE SHEEN IN THE WATER. |
