Description of Incident/General Comments |
RELEASE ORIGINATED FROM SAFETY‐KLEEN TANKER #503001 WHILE MAKING A PICK‐UP AT THE SKANA ALUMINUM FACILITY. CAUSE OF THE RELEASE WAS EQUIPMENT FAILURE. THE STRAINER AND RELATED PIPING ASSEMBLY WAS OBSTRUCTED BY ICE OR OTHER FROZEN SEDIMENT CAUSING THE OIL, WHICH WAS UNDER PRESSURE TO ESCAPE FROM THE STRAINER ASSEMBLY ON THE TRUCK. SPILL RESPONSE WAS INITIATED IMMEDIATELY BY ON‐SCENE PERSONNEL. ASSISTANCE AND ADDITIONAL CLEAN‐UP AND CONTAINMENT MATERIALS CAME FROM THE SAFETY‐KLEEN BRANCH LOCATED IN KAUKAUNA, WI. THE MATERIAL RELEASED WAS
CAPTURED, ABSORBED AND IT AND ALL RELATED CLEAN‐UP MATERIAL AND DEBRIS WAS COLLECTED IN 5‐55 GALLON STEEL DRUMS. THE DRUMS OF COLLECTED MATERIAL AND DEBRIS WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE KAUKAUNA, WI. SAFETY‐KLEEN BRANCH FOR PROPER DISPOSAL WITHIN OUR NETWORK.
