BIG PORTAGE LAKE RIPARIAN OWNERS ASSOCIATION: Big Portage Lake Management Planning Project, Phase 1

Big Portage Lake Riparian Owners Association is sponsoring a phased large scale lake planning grants to study Big Portage Lake in Vilas County. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Big Portage Lake. This grant is for phase 1. (Phase 3 of the LMP will be applied for in February of 2010.)

Project activities include: 1) Stakeholder participation kick-off meeting, stakeholder survey, planning meetings (up to 2), wrap-up meeting, news release(s), and newsletter article; 2) Water quality sampling and analysis (Secchi, P, Chla, DO, temp, N, conductivity, pH, Alk, suspended solids, and Calcium) sampling by citizen monitor and consultant; 3) Point-intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey, community mapping and analysis; 4) Curly-leaf pondweed survey; 5) Shoreline assessment; 6) Fisheries assessment; 7) Watershed assessment and P load modeling; 8) CB/CW, volunteer AIS monitoring and professional Dreissena monitoring; 9) Develop LMP.
