UNIFIED LOWER EAGLE RIVER CHAIN OF LAKES COM: Eagle River Chain of Lakes AIS Project - Phase 4
The Unified Lower Eagle River Chain of Lakes Commission (ULERCLC) is sponsoring an AIS ACEI grant on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes, in Vilas County. This is the fourth phase of an AIS control project that will focus on Eurasian Water-Milfoil (EWM) management, and AIS education, prevention and monitoring. The goal is to reduce the treatable EWM to half its current size and allow the ULERCLC to continue management of AIS on its own.
Activities include: 1) Annual chemical treatments of EWM and residual monitoring; 2) Volunteer hand removal of EWM as an experimental EWM control technique; 3) Annual Pre and Post treatment monitoring and analysis; 4)Annual volunteer AIS monitoring; 5) Recruit volunteers and implement a "Clean Boats, Clean Water" CB/CW program; 6) Stakeholder participation: CB/CW training, budget and grant meeting, project status/informational meeting; 7) Entry of inspection forms 3200-120 and monitoring forms onto Dept website; 8) Develop management strategy (working with UW Ext) to protect native plants; 9) Develop annual project report and a final report.
