Impaired Water - Big Eau Pleine River (Big Eau Pleine River)
Marathon County, Wisconsin
CW16, CW17
1427200
0.00 - 16.60
16.60
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Big Eau Pleine River suffers from low dissolved oxygen levels due to excess phosphorus. This segment of the Big Eau Pleine River was evaluated for phosphorus and biology every two years between 2012 and 2018. Phosphorus levels were found to be too high. This water is part of the Wisconsin River TMDL.

Impaired Water Notes
Approximately, 60 - 70 percent of the annual total phosphorus load enters the reservoir during March and April (snowmelt and spring rain events). Phosphorus is released from the sediments by wind agitation when sediments are exposed during drawdown and to lesser extent, from anaerobic sediment release.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2014 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, no biological data (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scores) were available to assess biological impairment).
Date
2/26/2014

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2016 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, no biological data (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scores) were available to assess biological impairment.

Impaired Water Notes
This water is part of the 2019 approved Wisconsin River TMDL addressing Total Phosphorus and Total Suspended Solids.
