Impaired Water - Little Green Lake (Little Green Lake)
Green Lake County, Wisconsin
UF12
162500
462.42
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Little Green Lake has high phosphorus levels which has caused low dissolved oxygen and algal blooms. The lake also has issues with elevated pH and degraded habitat. In 2006 this lake was placed on the impaired waters list. This lake was evaluated every two years from 2014 to 2024 and phosphorus and algae levels continue to be too high.
This water is covered by the Upper Fox & Wolf River Basins TMDL, approved by the US EPA on February 27, 2020.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus and chlorophyll sample data exceeded 2018 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use.
Date

Impaired Water Notes
Water has problems with Elevated pH, DO, Eutrophication, habitat loss, algae blooms from nutrient loading from nonpoint nutrients and internal nutrient loading. Unnatural water levels. Data is based on 2002-2005 Integrated Science Services Destratification monitoring report, 1999 Phosphorus budget, 1996 -2001 USGS Ambient Monitoring program. Water is currently listed for total phosphorus and Low DO, Eutrophication, Elevated pH. Degraded habitat was on the original data documentation sheet.
Date
3/24/2010

Impaired Water Notes
TP and/or chlorophyll data from the period 2006-2010 were insufficient to assess per 2012 WisCALM. However, the previous assessment(s) were carried forward, and the lake remains listed as impaired.
Date
6/13/2011

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2014 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, chlorophyll data do not exceed REC or FAL thresholds.
Date
1/16/2014

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle: total phosphorus sample data exceed 2016 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use, but not Fish and Aquatic Life use, and chlorophyll data exceeds both REC and FAL thresholds.
Date
10/12/2015

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceeded 2020 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Aquatic Life use; new chlorophyll-a data also exceeded REC and AL uses. Based on the most updated information, no change in existing impaired waters listing is needed.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2022 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceeded 2022 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Aquatic Life use. Based on the most updated information, no change in existing impaired waters listing is needed.
