Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Tainter Lake was put on the Impaired Waters List in the 1998 cycle due to a eutrophication and elevated pH impairments of the fish and aquatic life use caused by excess total phosphorus.
Evaluations every two-year cycle from 2012 to 2024 and elevated phosphorus and algal levels were confirmed.Pollutant

Cedar Corp monitored the lake in 2003. The Department is monitoring Tainter Lake as trend lake. SWIMS ID numbers include 173214, 173215 and 173216. The most recent Department trend data is found at the site with the SWIMs ID of 173215.
Blue Green sampling was completed in 2004 on Tainter Lake. SWIMs ID number = 173214. Monitoring found very high chlorophyll a numbers and detectable concentrations of toxins in water.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2012 listing cycle, and total phosphorus sample data exceed 2012 WisCALM listing criteria for the fish and aquatic life and recreation uses. Based on the 2012 assessment, a recreation use impairment (excess algal growth) caused by total phosphorus was added to this listing.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2014 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use and chlorophyll data exceeded REC and FAL thresholds.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceeded 2016 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use, and chlorophyll data overwhelmingly exceeded FAL thresholds and exceeded REC thresholds.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceeded 2020 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use, and chlorophyll data also exceeded REC and FAL thresholds. Based on the most updated information, no change in existing impaired waters listing is needed.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2022 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceeded 2022 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use, and chlorophyll data also exceeded REC and FAL thresholds. Based on the most updated information, no change in existing impaired waters listing is needed.
