WHITEFISH LAKE CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION, IN: Whitefish Lake AIS Program

Purpose

The Whitefish Lake Conservation Organization proposes to continue a Clean Boat Clean Waters (CBCW) watercraft inspection program and increase Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) education and outreach in the local area in 2006. The following activities/deliverables will be included in this project: 1) CBCW program with youth inspectors (approx. 500 hours) who will collect CBCW data in addition to recreational survey information to be used in the comprehensive lake management plan. The CBCW data will be entered into the statewide database. Recreational survey data will be compiled and used to recommend waterbody regulations to the Town of Wascott. 2) "Adopt-a-shore" program wherein riparians will be trained to identify AIS and inspect their shorelines monthly. Inspection data will be summarized and Adopt-a-shores identified on a lakemap. 3) Two boat landing kiosks will be constructed. Kiosks will include AIS information for recreation enthusiasts on Bond and Whitefish Lake. 4) Digital images will be collected the showcase the above items in addition to the annual Swim & Paddle-a-thon. 5) Any AIS related materials generated or paid for by this grant will be submitted as deliverables. If an AIS is identified, Frank Koshere (715-392-0807) or Pamela Toshner (715-635-4073) should be contacted.
