Purpose
The Door County Land and Water Conservation Department proposes to conduct an aquatic invasive species (AIS) education, prevention, planning and control project in partnership with the Door County Invasive Species Team during the period of October 2005 - December 2007. The project elements and deliverables are specified in the Door County Soil and Water Conservation Department's Aquatic Invasive Species Control Grant application, dated July 29, 2005. The project includes hiring a coordinator; integrating and coordinating AIS control efforts with recruitment and training sessions for volunteers; identifying and recording locations of priority problem species; developing county-wide control plans for purple loosestrife, Phragmites, reed canary grass and other AIS; measuring the success of control measures; creating an AIS control equipment loan program; holding Demonstration Control Field Days to increase volunteer knowledge of monitoring and control techniques; coordinating the township volunteer invasive species monitors; conducting "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" and rusty crayfish workshops; managing an AIS database, website and advertising; designing and distributing AIS fact sheets; assisting partners in developing AIS control projects and obtaining funding for their implementation; and obtaining additional funding to implement county-wide control projects and maintain the coordinator position. A mid-term progress report and a final report summarizing the two-year project will be provided to DNR.
The grantee will provide the DNR Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator with a draft of the final report for comment on report adequacy prior to requesting final reimbursement. DNR to receive both paper and electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee's final payment request.Related Reports
