Egg Harbor Beach And Boat Trailer Parking Lot Improvements: The Village is proposing to repave an 18’ wide strip of pavement (the drive aisle) with a pervious strip that will reduce the volume of runoff leaving the parking lot. The Village would also make improvements to divert a greater portion of the runoff from the parking lot to the existing biofilter.

Establishment Of Regional Rapid Method Test Facilities In Wi: This project would expand existing (Racine and/or Milwaukee Counties) and establish new rapid test method labs in the Lake Superior region (serving Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, and Iron Counties), Door County (Serving Brown, Door, and Kewaunee counties), and Manitowoc (serving Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties). This project would provide all infrastructure required including all equipment and training needed to start using the qPCR rapid test methods. By leveraging current testing facilities (Ashland, Sturgeon Bay, Manitowoc, Racine, and Milwaukee) and using this capital investment all of Wisconsin's coastal waters would be able to get beach testing results within 4 hours.

Implementation Of Bmps At Beaches To Improve Water Quality: The project will focus on developing a cost share program for the construction of practices for reducing storm water contamination at seven beaches throughout the County. These seven beaches completed the preliminary and final design process for addressing storm water run off and discharge to their beaches and are therefore eligible to participate in the SWCD’s beach contamination reduction implementation project.

The Nature Conservancy: Acq-Kangaroo Lake Land Acquisition - Michelsen Property: The Nature Conservany will acquire approximately 60 acres of land situated along the west side of the north end of Kangaroo Lake 1) to create a significant buffer for the large undisturbed wetland/shallow marl lake system, 2) to protect the north end of the lake from large scale development, and 3) to protect the property's dolomite planteau which is a probable recharge site of the shallow aquifer that feeds the lake through springs near share and in Peil Creek. Approximately 12 acres adjacent to County E (Maple Rd.) on the west edge of the property consists of an old field of predominately low herbaceous vegetation. The remainder of the property is forested. Shrubs grow on the lake edge of the shoreline ridge. The acquisition of this property is part of the sponsor's Kangaroo Lake/Piel Creek Complex plan. The primary goals of the property's management are contained in the Kangaroo Lake/Peil Creek Project Management Plan and include 1) to maintain or improve the water quality of Piel Creek and the integrity of the riparian corridor of the creek and the lake shoreline; to protect and restore as necessary, natural hydrologic systems, and 2) to preserve and enhance the site's native plant and animal communities, ensuring that the entire gradient of natural communities represented is protected; to protect the forest areas from further fragmentation or logging.

Kangaroo Lake Association, Inc.: Res-Kangaroo Lake Bulrush Restoration Project: The Kangaroo Lake Association proposes to conduct an experiment with the re-establishment of native bulrushes within the southern slow-no-wake area on Kangaroo Lake. Hard-stem bulrush (Schoenoplectus acutus) and soft-stem bulrush (Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani) would be planted in plots at different lengths from the shoreline and monitored to verify if they establish and expand. A report detailing the findings with recommendations will be supplied to the Kangaroo Lake Association and the Department of Natural Resources in hardcopy and PDF format.

Kangaroo Lake Association, Inc.: Hlr-Kangaroo Lake Fish Sticks 2022: Partnering with property owners, Kangaroo Lake Association\00A0is sponsoring a grant to implement best practices from Wisconsin\2019s 2019 Healthy Lakes & Rivers Action Plan. Best practices, including fish sticks, 350 sq. ft. native plantings, diversions, rock infiltration, and/or rain gardens, will be designed and installed according to program fact sheets, technical guidance and the grant application.
All funded best practices require contracts that must remain in place for 10 years and include the minimum operation and maintenance requirements described in the special conditions at the end of this agreement. If the landowner is the grant sponsor this Lake Protection Grant Agreement serves as the contract. If the best practice(s) will be implemented on land other than the sponsor\2019s, a contract between the sponsor and landowner describing the 10-year contract period, minimum operation and maintenance details, and data to be collected is required. The Department may perform site inspections and/or monitoring to ensure project success.

City Of Sturgeon Bay: Bradley Lake Coastal Resource Management Plan: The City of Sturgeon Bay is sponsoring a project to develop a long-term lake management plan that will address the designed habitat maintenance and water quality requirements for Bradley Lake.

Project final deliverables include: all data collected, agendas and minutes for planning meetings, presentations, water quality data reports, newsletters and educational materials provided to the public.

Specific project activities include: 1) Define the existing conditions of aquatic habitat types of the nearshore Sturgeon Bay area by conducting a bathymetric survey, topographic survey and aerial photography of the shoreline areas; 2) Involve the community with the lake management planning process and communication of project results through several public meetings and input opportunities; 3) Development of a final comprehensive lake management plan that addresses Bradley Lake\2019s water quality, fishery, and aquatic ecosystem habitat and recreational usage and management practices within Sunset Park.

Special Conditions: 1) Collection of water quality samples and laboratory analysis will not be funded by this grant.

Door County: Dunes Lake Watershed Study Ph 2: Door County Soil & Water Conservation Department proposes to conduct monitoring on Dunes Lake and its watershed to better understand the watershed contributions to Dunes Lake. The monitoring results will used to educate and inform the public about the lake and effects of land use practices on water quality. Data collected from this effort will be used to develop a management plan and implementation strategy for the Dunes Lake watershed. The project elements and deliverables will be completed as described in the project proposal submitted to the Department and dated July 31, 2008.

Door County: Dunes Lake Watershed Study Ph 3: Door County Soil and Water Conservation Department proposes to continue to assess surface and groundwater impacts to Geisel Creek and Dunes Lakes in a multi-phased project. Phase 3 will focus on the role of groundwater in the water budget and nutrient loading in Geisel Creek and Dunes Lake through the delineation of the hydrologic connections between surface and groundwater in the watershed. Specifically, phase 3 will contract with UW-Madison graduate student to investigate the hydrology of the Dunes Lake watershed, determine a water budget for Dunes Lake, delineate the zone of groundwater contribution to at least three springs, evaluate the nutrients present in groundwater and surface water samples taken throughout the watershed, investigate the use of viral tracing from the treatment ponds, and develop a final report. Door County: Door County Dunes Lake Watershed Study Ph 4: AMENDED SCOPE: Door County Soil and Water Conservation Department proposes to continue to assess the connectivity between surface and groundwater hydrology of the Dunes Lake watershed. This is a multi-phased project to help define pollutant sources to Dunes Lake. Specifically, phase 4 will collect water quality samples to investigate connectivity through chemical analysis. The results of this phase will be summarized in a final report. Kangaroo Lake Association, Inc.: Kangaroo Lake Milfoil Weevil Study: Kangaroo Lake Association proposes to document the distribution and evaluate the potential of the aquatic weevil, Euhrychiopis lecontei as a Eurasian Watermilfoil control agent on Kangaroo Lake. Project activies will result in a field evaluation of experimental weevil stocking, a status report and presentation to the lake group, and a final report including feasibility recommendations.

Kangaroo Lake Association will obtain and disseminate information, conduct educational opportunities, develop action plans and begin implementation of shoreline restoration activities by assisting lake land owners to place dropped trees in the water along their shoreline and assessing and planting bulrush along shoreline where they once thrived. The project elements and deliverables are specified in the grant application materials submitted to the Department dated January 22, 2014.

Door County: Shivering Sands/Haberli Project: To cost-share retrofit of manure storage and runoff practices to address violations of performance standards.

Door County: Logan Creek/Lautenbach Site: To cost-share installation of manure storage and barnyard runoff practices to address violations of performance standards on the Gerald Polster farm within the Hibbards Creek sub-watershed.

Town Of Gibraltar: Fish Creek Improvement And Protection Plan: The Town of Gibraltar is sponsoring a project to develop a community based Improvement and Protection Plan for Fish Creek.

Project final deliverables include: all data collected, agendas and minutes for planning meetings, and a river management plan that includes methodologies, results, and management alternatives discussion with an implementation plan.

Specific project activities include: 1) Evaluate existing nutrient and flow data for Fish Creek; 2) Develop a model to estimate flow, sediment, and nutrients to Fish Creek; 3) Gather sociological information and solicit participation in the planning process; 4) Develop a 9-Key element watershed based plan and an improvement and protection plan that addresses groundwater infiltration and water flow in Fish Creek while reducing stormwater runoff. The plan will also identify strategies to address invasive species and restore and protect fishery and wildlife habitat.

Special Conditions: 1) Draft sociological/user surveys must be reviewed and approved by the Department before being initiated.

Specific project activities include: 1) Developing a conceptual design plan and cost estimate for State Highway 42 culvert fish passage; 2) Developing a conceptual design plan and completion of meander restoration and stream channel enhancement of Fish Creek upstream of State Highway 42; 3) Developing a conceptual design plan and cost estimate for Redmann dam fish passage.

Special Conditions: 1) Prior to construction, the Town will obtain all requisite landowner access and permits as required from WDNR, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE), Door County, and other regulatory agencies or municipalities.

Town Of Gibraltar: Restoring Fish Passage To Fish Creek At The Hwy 42 Culvert: The Town of Gibraltar is sponsoring a project to install fish passage improvements past the box culvert at State Highway 42 on Fish Creek in Door County.

Project final deliverables include: all design plans, an installed fish ladder and baffles and a final report summarizing the project.

Specific project activities include: 1) Installation of a fish ladder to the apron of the culvert at STH 42 on Fish Creek which will allow fish easier access to the culvert; 2) Installation of baffles inside the culvert which will help concentrate the water flow during times of low water and also provide a place for the fish to get out of the current and rest when needed; 2) Coordination with agencies such as WisDOT, WDNR, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACOA), and US Fish & Wildlife Service as identified in the selected design from Miller Engineers Scientists; 4) Hold at least one public meeting regarding this project; and 5) Summarize the project in a final report.
