Lake Noquebay TWA 2016-2017

Purpose

The Lake Noquebay Priority Watershed Project focused on non-point source control objectives for the watershed which had been designed to protect current stream water quality and ecology and improve long term water quality trends in Lake Noquebay. Post BMP implementation monitoring will be conducted to evaluate the project effectiveness on those objectives. Section 319 Project.

Objective

Department staff recommended special signs of success monitoring where specific BMP's could have met project objectives, however no signs of success monitoring was conducted during the implementation phase of the project. Effectiveness monitoring will be completed to assess if project goals have been met to protect stream quality in the watershed and improve long term trends of water quality in Lake Noquebay.

Outcome

Monitoring to assess current water quality condition of streams in the watershed will be conducted at 25-30 stream sites and within Lake Noquebay. Biological, physical and chemical assessments will include fish surveys, quantitative and qualitative habitat surveys, macroinvertabrate IBI's, Diatom Nutrient Index samples, Total P and Nitrogen series water chemistry grab samples, continuous water temperatures measurements, flow, transparency, and other instantaneous water quality parameters.
