Purpose

The project will focus on developing a cost share program for the construction of practices for reducing storm water contamination at seven beaches throughout the County. These seven beaches completed the preliminary and final design process for addressing storm water run off and discharge to their beaches and are therefore eligible to participate in the SWCD’s beach contamination reduction implementation project.

Objective

This project will offer municipalities a cost-share incentive for the construction of best management practices, according to finalized construction plans, to reduce stormwater contamination from entering beaches, increase overall beach health and water quality, and ultimately reduce beach closures and advisories.

Outcome

The Door County Soil & Water Conservation Department (DCSWCD) was able to work with municipalities through an extensive series of phases including source identification, preliminary design planning, and final design development. The next necessary phase is the construction and implementation of final designs.
