SAWYER COUNTY: Lake Classification and Ordinance Development - Phase 1

Purpose

Sawyer County proposes to develop and implement a classification scheme for all lakes over 10 acres in the County and to recommend language to amend the County's Shoreland Zoning Ordinance to protect and improve its lakes' water quality and ecosystems. Phase 1 project activites consist of: 1. Creation of lake development policy 2. Development of a lake classification system based on the ability to accommodate development. 3. Inventory and analysis of lakes over 10 acres. 4. Public education of the project and issues and public input to goals and objectives. The Sponsor will prepare a summary report including the results of the above activities. The results of the above activities will be disseminated to the public by public meeting and local newspaper article. The sponsor will provide the Department with a paper copy and an electronic copy of the summary report.
