SAWYER COUNTY: Lake Classification and Ordinance Development - Phase 1

Purpose

Sawyer County proposes to develop and implement a classification scheme for all lakes over 10 acres in the County and to recommend language to amend the County's Shoreland Zoning Ordinance to protect and improve its lakes' water quality and ecosystems. Phase 2 project activities consist of: 1. Classification and prioritization of lakes in the county. 2. Development of regulatory program. 3. Inventory and analysis of lakes over 10 acres. 4. Zoning office review; recommend language to amend the County's shoreland zoning ordinance. The Sponsor will prepare a final report of the project including the results of the above activities. The results of the above activities will be disseminated to the public by public meeting and local newspaper article. The sponsor will provide the DNR with a paper copy and an electronic copy of the summary report.
