CEDAR LAKES CONSERVATION FOUNDATION: ACQ-Big Cedar Lake Land Acquisition - Hembel Property

Purpose

The Cedar Lakes Conservation Foundation will acquire 103 acres of land situated within a major subwatershed of and that drains toward Big Cedar Lake. The stream that passes through the property has been identified as a major source of nonpoint pollution responsible for cropland sediment loading to the lake. The primary goals of the property's management plan are (1) existing wooded portions of the land will be preserved in their natural state (2) certain wetland areas will be restored; lands associated with the stream, buffer strips, and grassed waterways will be maintained and managed by the lake district and (3) rental of existing croplands will be conditioned on the implementation of practices contaiend in the LCD cropland management plan. Croplands no longer rented for agricultural purposes will be planted in native species of grasses, shrubs, and trees. Eligible costs aer outlined on the attached Cost Estimate Worksheet.
