TWIN LAKES P & R DISTRICT: Mary Lake Watershed Assessment & Lake Management Plan

Purpose

NEEDS ASSESSMENT SURVEY OF ALL HOUSEHOLDS. LAND USE PRACTICES IN WATERSHED WILL BE MAPPED. NUTRIENT BUDGET WILL BE PREPARED USING AREAL LOADING METHOD. APPROPRIATE PHOSPHORUS LOADING MODEL WILL BE USED ALONG WITH THE NUTRIENT BUDGET DEVELOPED FOR THE LAKE. GROUNDWATER INFLOWS CALCULATED. WATER QUALITY MONITORING. CONDUCT AQUATIC PLANT SURVEY. UNDERWATER VIDEO TO DETERMINE STATUS OF AQUATIC MACROPHYTES AND FISH HABITAT. AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS. TWO NEWSLETTERS WILL BE PRODUCED. DRAFTING OF LAKE MANAGEMENT PLAN.

The purpose of the plan is to address concerns of the District regarding water quality, lake use, and land uses within the watershed. The lake management planning process has been undertaken concurrently with the preparation of a Master Plan for the Village of Twin Lakes, whose boundaries are coterminous with the District boundaries. Discovery Group, Ltd. has been the consultant to the Village of Twin lakes for the preparation of the Master Plan.

Needs assessment survey of all households. Land use practices in watershed will be mapped. Nutrient budget will be prepared using areal loading method. Appropriate phosphorus loading model will be used along with the nutrient budget developed for the lake. Groundwater inflows calculated. Water quality monitoring. Conduct aquatic plant survey. Underwater video to determine status of aquatic macrophytes and fish habitat. Aerial photographs. Two newsletters will be produced. Drafting of Lake management plan.
