Oneida County proposes to undertake a comprehensive revision and updating/upgrading of its zoning and shorelands protection ordinance to better address shoreland and shoreland wetland problems. Project activities include 1) using a representative sample of 4-6 lakes assess and document current land uses around the lakes, devleopment trends, lake water quality and water use trends that are regulated by the shoreland zoning ordinance; 2) conduct a detailed legal review of existing mining ordinance provisions as they affect or are affected by the shoreland-wetland ordinance; 3)identify model ordinance provisions, case examples and alternatives from other communities to address shoreland and wetland issues; 4) develop a shoreland and shoreland-wetland education program; and 5) develop an enforcement process utilizing computerized geographic information system data and aerial photography.
